Chloe's Hybrid

This is a piece of a computer that I found by a railroad.
I put it in the garden and planted a few seeds in it, and this was the result.

Laurel's Tattoo

"Tattoo Bird"

Bev's Portals

"Portals"
Oil on canvas

Inspired by a photograph taken by photographer friend Dick Bosworth. I warned Dick of my plan to take advantage of the excellent composition of his original photo, and that the colors were going to be exaggerated from the soft pastels of the scenic Southwestern palette he encountered at the time of his shot. Also that the light was going to pulsate, rather than soothe. When I showed Dick this painting, I believe he was surprised a lot and pleased - just a bit.

Marilyn's Tree of Life

"Mother Nature with her Baby Jesus Hare"
Oil and acrylic

This one took a long time to evolve. I began with the crown of nests and then didn't know where to go after that. I changed the images on the veils several times. Once I thought of it as Tree of life, then everything else fell into place. Have I made you hungry?

Mary's Under the Bed

BELLA DE JOUR
(She does it for the shoes)

Continuing to exploit every theme to serve as prompts to further the collection of 'Bella Portraits', I've once again leaned hard on some old version of photoshop to depict Miss Thing as a thing ON TOP of the bed, with something(s) of interest UNDER THE BED. Namely her sex-pump bedroom slippers. All four of them.

Laurel's Submission

Submission is thinking I know what I'm going to paint...and letting that go...and just seeing what is showing up on my canvas. Like that.

Pauline's Hybrid

"Mickey the Munchkin cat"

Photo with computer background...

Joelle's Submission

"Submit"

Prismacolor pencils on student quality 8 1/2" x 11" paper.
I start with the lightest shades, sketching lightly as the image unveils itself, building up to the darkest and brightest.

Submission can be entering a piece in a show, and so I could do with this drawing, but when I received the theme I immediately thought of the humiliation of submission to a superior power.

Laurel's Under the Bed

Dreams and dust bunnies. This is Augie, my friend's dog who loves to nap on my luxurious bed. He's dreaming of the beach that we take him for walks on. He'd much rather be on top of the bed than under it.

Sofia's Mermaid

Marilyn's Submission

' After Confession '

I went back to the assemblage for Submission. I was raised Catholic, and that shows up in so much of my art. I love all the icons and symbols. I call this piece "After Confession". Last Saturday I found an old little prayer book of mine and it called to me as "submission" – all that kneeling in church and receiving penance and being in trouble for the least little thing. I began with a deep red canvas and added a butterfly to represent the feeling of flight after confessing all the bad ass sins. Oh my God I'm heartily sorry for having offended thee.... The little tag on the rosary says, “Blessed by Supreme Chaplain”. How special.

Joelle's Under the Bed

' The Baby's Bed'

Marilyn's Under the Bed

Marie's Head Under My Bed

I went off in a whole other direction. After creating a pencil drawing , I began to play. I found this bizarre little catalog of Halloween costumes, and there she was! Little Marie Antoinette. Then I put a little guillotine on top...and Voila! Marie's Head Under My Bed.

Norma's Under the Bed

Pauline's Under The Bed

I do not have a cat or a dog, so I have to imagine myself having one under my bed.
This is a gouache and acrylic painting on water color paper mounted on tag board.
(11 x 13)

Laurel's Mermaid

Mary's Mermaid

'Diving Bell(a on the rock)'

I've decided to use the themes to move a project forward that I started with Marilyn quite awhile ago. It's a series of portraits of my cat, Bella. Perhaps 'cat' is too small a word to describe the creature that she is. Those who have made her acquaintance seem to agree. The rest of the world will have to let the pictures do the talking. The first two (before the Art Game) are entitled 'queen elizaBELLA' and 'BELLA-go-lightly'. This time it's adobe photoshop generated. Next time, who knows? I can tell you the name of someone who could not care less. BELLA! Look how over it she is, with her attitude, and fishes.

Bev's Mermaid

' Going Under'

I knew at once that my mermaid was going to be diving into a tropical drink.
Once the concept was in place, it was only a matter of finding the right fabric for her tail and something for her to dive into. And a drinkie-poo parasol, of course.
JoAnne Fabrics has this amazing stuff called 'Aqua Gems'.
Everyone should buy a bottle just to be able to play with the little moist balls of whatever it is that the stuff is made from.

The name of this drink is ''Going Under'.
I think there must be some vodka in it...

Wendy's Mermaid

It is a dry point etching. It is 5 X 5 inches square.....sepia ink.....on Fabrianno 300 paper.

Norma's Mermaid

Gaye's Mermaid

Gaye is the Tasmanian devil..... this is a life size sculpture made of armature and covered with plaster and painted green.....

Sarah Jane's Mermaid

I borrowed the colored clay from my next door neighbor, Charlotte. I once went to this place and painted a mermaid. I guess I must have thought of it and tried to make it like the mermaid. I know you're really proud of me because I didn't copy it. My mum thinks the seagull looks like the bird in 'Up'. I rolled little balls and squooshed them with my hand to make the face. The tiara I did like three fish tails and then squished them together and put little yellow clay dots on top. I can't wait until next month - I'm going to get all ready.

Jill's Mermaid

This one is called Maxmaid. It was inspired by my dog Max who goes to the pool every morning, puts his paws in, takes a drink, and then runs around the house.

Marilyn's Mermaid

Everything in this particular piece was found around my house. The photo is of my daughter in our pool at age 10. The coral and pearls came from my jewelry stash. The fish came from the Encyclopedia of Fishing (which I recommend for every household).

Megan's Mermaid

I started with a metal plank I found in the garage- added some paper for the rocks and waves. I found an old magazine for the moon and a couple of the rocks. Then, I Painted the background and added stars. Finally- I took a picture of my sister and painted on a tail!

Chloe's Mermaid

Barbie mermaid! Gaffer tape, card stock, acrylic paint, lots of glitter, and nail polish.

Pauline's Mermaid

My mermaid is painted on wood with acrylics. I think she is dreaming about a sailor that might show up.
